2.3 Color Atlas Compatibility

  1. Benson, William, 1868: Color Cube.
  2. The Color Atlases 6°/10% WYM, WMY, WCY, WYC, WMC and WCM are compatible to the Color Cube by Alfred Hickethier (1952)
  3. The Color Atlases to Black are compatible to the HSV and HSB Color Model.
  4. The Color Atlases to colorful colors are compatible to the documented Double Cone Color Model.
  5. The Color Atlases to colorful colors and Chromaticity Type Square and the documented Double Cone Color Model are compatible to dem HSL Color Model.
  6. GIMP Web Color Palettes. The same order like the "Web (216)" Color Palettes in GIMP.
  7. Mac color chooser Spectrum.

Create and select a Draw image with a click. In the software menu under View ToolbarsDrawing display the toolbar, then create for example a rectangle and select it with the cursor.

Under Colors click on the folder icon ("Load Color List") and select a color palette with the suffix .soc and click on Open.

Tip: Another color palette as standard. Automatically: Use the Extension: ZD Color Palettes!
Manually: Rename the standard.soc file to (for example) "standard_original.soc" and rename for example the basecolors_6_ry.soc or basecolors_5_ry.soc palette to "standard.soc".

4 Color Theory

According to the law of Grassman 1953, all colors can be mixed with three different light sources (Red, Green and Blue).

4.1 Additive Color Mixing

The primary colors of the additive color mixing are: Red, Green and Blue.

The mixing of all three primary colors resulting White.

4.2 Subtractive Color Mixing

The primary colors of the subtraktive color mixing are: Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

The mixing of all three primary colors resulting (theoretical) Black.

4.3 Base Colors

The primary colors in the additive and subtractive color mixing and the primary colors of achromatic colors (White and Black combine to 8 basic colors that are, for example in the Color Body Cube (color cube) on the corners.

4.4 Colorful Line

The colorful line runs along the colorful Base Colors, for example starting at Red (0°) and further to Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Magenta and ends in a 3 dimensional Color Space before the Base Colors Red (360°) again or vice versa.

4.8 Color Space

The color space is the space in which the colors according to a defined Color Body and Color Model can be arranged. A Color Model can occur in several geometer bodies. A color space is named often as follows: First, the Color Model and then the Color Body, for example, "HSL cylinder.".

4.9 Color Grid

A Color Space that is divided by a defined grid and where such a limited number of colors is found, here called color grid. The used dimensions for the color grid are percentage (%) and degrees (°).

The distance from one of the 8 Base Colors to another (for example in the Color Body Cube, from one corner Red to the other Yellow) is 60 ° or 100%.

4.10 Color Circle

The Color Circle presents the colors simplified form and works well for documentations.

The Color Circle in this documentation is a horizontal slice through the middle of the Double Cone-Color Bodys with only the outer colors on the Colorful Line and additional the Neutral Gray. The Colorful Line is outside on the Color Circle and runs along the colorful Base Colors startings right with Red (0°) and further upward to Yellow, top left to Green, Cyan, bottom left to Blue, bottom right to Magenta and ends again before the Base Colors Red (360°).

5.5 Color Harmony

5.5.1 Color Harmony Theorie

Individual colors in a Color Space that are available in a regular position to each other, result in a harmonious Color Scheme. These colors are in the color palettes: "Color Harmony".

Note! The current color palettes are only created by color shemes positioned directly on the Colorful Line. The advantage compared to color harmony software is, you can search on this color palettes for color harmonies and then, if it is necessary, edit the color harmonies to the Achromatic Line.

How to use the Color Palettes?

Baseline Colors (120° 60°) (available) 60° (100%) Basic Knowledge In 60° grid are all 8 Base Colors available. Warning! Few colors.
Mottled (30°, 15°, 7.5°) 15° (25%) because Dark-Orange (D-O) #804000 also available. Painting In practice, you can mix the colors (starting with the Base Colors) according to the half as often as necessary. This provides a very easy to be measured mixing method with which one can be quite a color-blending well. Missing colors! CMY-Gray and RGB-Gray not available.
Third (20°, 10°, 5°) 10° (16.66%) better 5° because Dark-Orange (D-O) #804000 also available. colorslehre, Painting and Printing Press. 10° grid contain CMY-Gray and RGB-Gray OK! Bei 5° auch #804000 Dark-Orange (D-O) vorhanden.
Tenner (6°, 3°) 6° (10%) or also 3° (5%) Printing Press Color atlases have often a grid of 10% or 5%. Missing colors! CMY-Gray and RGB-Gray not available.
Web (22, 12, 11.11°) 12° (20%) Web The 12° palette is the commonly used color palette. Warning! Is deprecated.
